It has long been the vision of Thatcham Evangelical Church (TEC) to have both:

  • a people and
  • a place

Well, over the past 2 years, the Lord has been answering the first part, a people, and we are now very regularly getting new additions to the church.

This means that we are running out of space in our present building – the Thatcham Parish Hall. This building has been our home for the nearly 20 years. It has served its purpose well over these 2 decades.

We come now to the 2nd aspect of our vision and that is for a place. We believe, as we come to our 20th Church Anniversary service on 11th January 2026, that the Lord has been prompting us to urgently ask for a building.

It has long been a reality that TEC is the only FIEC church West of Reading for many miles around. There are, to our best knowledge, no “expository preaching” type churches until you get to places like Andover, Didcot, Oxford, Swindon or Basingstoke.

We are observing a “Mary of Bethany”-type hunger for the pure preached Word of God in Thatcham, Newbury and the many small towns around.

Due to restrictions from other regular hirers and limited availability, we are unable to hold larger midweek gatherings, youth and children’s activities, café-style outreach, lunch groups, or other community-focused events that are increasingly necessary and on our hearts to setup and establish.

In God’s providence, a suitable building has come up for sale locally and would give us the space and freedom to grow, serve, and reach out more fully. It is well-located and offers the kind of facilities that would allow us to gather throughout the week, build stronger community ties, and more effectively minister to all ages – especially young people and families.

However, we urgently need to raise the funds required to secure this building. We believe this is a strategic and God-given opportunity, and we do not want to miss it.

Would you prayerfully consider supporting us at this key moment? Whether through a one-time gift, a pledge, or simply spreading the word, your support would be a vital part of helping us take this step forward in faith.

Please do get in touch if you would like more information, to talk with our pastor, or to arrange a visit.

Above all, we value your prayers as we seek the Lord’s will and trust Him to provide for what will enable us to bring in the harvest which is plentiful, a place to his glory.

Thus far we have £10,000 set aside in the building fund but we need a lot more – £720,000 is the need as it stands.
